Ask which red dot sight is best in the UK and the question hides four unrelated activities. A skirmish in wet woodland, a sub-12 ft lb air rifle off a kneeling roll, a practical stage against the clock and a certificate-held rifle on a hill each reward a different optic, and price is rarely the reason. So this is arranged by what you are doing, with every figure taken from the specification tables on our own product pages.

Airsoft: surviving a whole game day in British weather
Airsoft guns are not firearms. Section 57A of the Firearms Act 1968, inserted by the Policing and Crime Act 2017, defines an airsoft gun as "a barrelled weapon of any description which (a) is designed to discharge only a small plastic missile" that is "made wholly or partly from plastics, is spherical, and does not exceed 8 millimetres in diameter", and which is not capable of exceeding the permitted kinetic energy at the muzzle. The legislation sets those permitted levels at 1.3 joules for a weapon capable of discharging two or more missiles successively without repeated pressure on the trigger, and 2.5 joules in any other case. What matters on a skirmish is duller than reticle theory: the optic must still be lit at four in the afternoon, it must not mind rain, and it must arrive with a mount. Behind a full-face mask you also sit further back and higher than you would behind a rifle stock, which favours a big window and a taller mount over a low-slung tube.

Sub-12 ft lb air rifle: the dot has to be smaller than the target
The Guide on firearms licensing law sets the thresholds at 12 ft lb for an air rifle and 6 ft lb for an air pistol (s.2.46); above those an air weapon is not an exempt air weapon. Scotland is different again: s.2 of the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 makes it an offence for a person to use, possess, purchase or acquire an air weapon in Scotland without holding an air weapon certificate issued by Police Scotland (s.2.52). Optically, air rifle work is the opposite of airsoft. Targets are small and precise, so dot size stops being a preference and becomes the decision. A 6 MOA dot that feels fast on a carbine covers a knock-down target face entirely, leaving you guessing where its middle sits. Two MOA is the sensible floor.

Practical and tactical rifle: window size and a reticle that does two jobs
Shooting a stage shifts the value of an optic to how fast you find the dot from an awkward position, and how well one reticle serves a close target and a distant one. This is where multi-reticle optics earn their keep. The Holosun HS510C pairs a wide 0.91 × 1.26 in (23 × 32 mm) window with a Multi-Reticle System offering a 2 MOA dot, a 65 MOA circle, or both together as a circle-dot. The circle catches the eye at speed; the dot places the shot. The HS510C is an open reflex design, and in genuinely foul weather that exposed emitter well is the part that lets you down. Holography is the other route. The EOTech EXPS2-0 puts the familiar 68 MOA ring with a 1 MOA dot on the tall EXPS chassis, with an integrated quick-detach throw lever on a 7 mm raised lower-1/3 base and brightness buttons on the left flank so a magnifier can sit hard up behind it. The trade is power: one CR123 cell gives roughly 1,000 hours against tens of thousands from an LED dot, and this body carries 20 daylight settings with no night-vision steps. Certificate-held rifles and stalking: sealing, recoil and a fair limit
Firearms held on certificate carry conditions set by your licensing authority, and Northern Ireland operates under its own firearms legislation — confirm what applies to you with your police firearms licensing department, not with a retailer.
The requirement here is unglamorous: hold zero under recoil, keep water out for a day on a hill, and give a dot fine enough to place a shot honestly. Being straight about it: a 1x red dot is a close-range instrument. For most deer stalking in Great Britain the right optic is a magnified riflescope, and we do not sell riflescopes — that is a purchase to make elsewhere. What the mount decides for you
Height is not a detail bolted on afterwards. It decides whether your iron sights appear in the glass and whether a magnifier lines up behind the optic at all. Adding reach without giving up 1x
A flip-to-side magnifier stretches a rifle dot without touching the optic or its zero. What we do not carry, said plainly
Our range is Holosun, Trijicon, EOTech and SIG Sauer. A rifle guide reaches for a couple of things we do not stock, so rather than talk around them: the ACOG is not stocked, though we do carry the RM66 and RM35 mounts that sit an RMR on an ACOG you already own. Mounting an RMR-pattern Trijicon on a carbine means a Picatinny mount such as the RM33.
